I purchased the Art of Looking Sideways in my early 20s and it was the first art/design book in my collection. I worked in a shopping centre at the time, and I remember spending the hour long train journey home reading this book, in absolute awe. I partially credit it for igniting a spark which would later fan into the flame of my practice.

I love this book so much that it was featured in a photoshoot with the incredible photographer, Montserrat Rubio, right after a traumatic break up. I never intended to cry during a shoot, I am a pro after all, but I opened it on the “HEART” page, and couldn’t keep my eyes dry after that. The red letters and the red dress told that story beautifully. This booked played its part in immortalising the pain I felt at having lost someone I cared so deeply about.

Another thing I genuinely love about this book, is that you will never quite be done with it; it’s a lifetime of inspiration. It’s something you will keep coming back to time and time again, and never really see the same thing twice.

I photographed a few random pages for you to have a look at.
