Commissions

Some ideas begin with a story. Others with a space, a memory, a particular colour, or simply the feeling that you want something made entirely for you.

I create a small number of commissioned works each year, developed individually through conversation and made by hand in my London studio.

You don't necessarily need to arrive with a finished idea. That's part of the process.

How it works

01 - The conversation

It starts with a conversation about what you're imagining; the space, scale, colours, and anything you'd like the work to hold or represent.

Sometimes there's a very clear idea from the beginning. Sometimes there really isn't. Both are completely fine.

02 - The idea

From there, I'll develop the direction for the piece within my existing practice, considering its composition, palette, materials and the details that will make it particular to you.

A commission is a collaboration, but it's also an extension of my work. The aim isn't simply to make something to specification, but to take what you bring to me and interpret it through my own visual language.

03 - The making

Once we've agreed on the direction, the making begins.

Each work is constructed meticulously by hand, often from thousands of individual elements, so this is usually the longest part of the process. I'll keep you updated along the way, while leaving a few things unseen until the work is finished. Some surprises are worth keeping.

Start a conversation

If you're thinking about commissioning a work, I'd love to hear what you have in mind.

It doesn't need to be beautifully written or completely figured out. Tell me as much or as little as you know, and we can start there.
